Bill Martin

Bill Martin was a square dance caller, musician, mentor and friend to many.
I only met him once... and he left a lasting impression on me.   Through his calling and musical community I have been folded in.  I know that that he will be missed and remembered.

Thank you for your humor, music and inspiration, Bill.
Rest in Peace

September 2012 Square Dance!!

The monthly Hokum Hoedown square dance and old-timey music series returns at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at the Linen Building, 1402 W. Grove St. in Downtown Boise’s Linen District. $5 per person, $15 per family. All ages, full bar (I.D. required), Pie Hole pizza. Plenty of free, off-street parking is available at the Linen Building.

The Hokum Hoedown — happily back in the saddle after a two-month summer break — is a modern take on the old-time hootenanny featuring the infectious swing of the Hokum Hi-Flyers accoustic string band

At each Hoedown (first Friday of every month), the Hokum boys perform a diverse assortment of traditional folk-dance and string-band tunes while a cast of colorful callers directs the dances.

In addition to square dancing, the Hokum Hoedown features some good old-fashioned, swingin’, two-steppin’ western dancing. Young and old, couples and families, tattooed hipsters and ten-gallon cowboys ... the Hokum Hoedown is a come-as-you-are, hand-clappin’ hootenanny for all.

ABOUT HOKUM HI-FLYERS: We play Appalachian old-time mountain music, as well as other forms of unplugged 1920s/30s American roots music (Cajun, swing, traditional country). Our high-energy fiddle tunes will get you on your feet and hollerin' at the rafters. We serve up Hokum and we serve it hot!

THE HOKUM HI-FLYERS ARE:

Dave Daley: fiddle, vocals
Jonah Shue: fiddle, guitar, mandolin, vocals
Scott Knickerbocker: banjo, guitar, vocals
Gary Shue: guitar, mandolin
Patrick Harren: harmonica
Travis Ward: upright bass, guitar, vocals
