Hello dancing and music friends!
This Friday, December 6th is a very special square dance. It will be a benefit for the World Center for Birds of Prey, a square dance, and a CD release for Idyltime's new album 'It's Not Time' including local support by the energetic band, The Lonesome Jetboat Ramblers.

Here are the details...

Owl presentation @7:00
Concerts and dancing from 7:45 til late!

Bluegrass and Birds - A Concert and Dance to Benefit the World Center for Birds of Prey! Dust off your dancing shoes and get ready for a full evening of music and conservation. Our friends Idyltime will be releasing a new album called “It’s Not Time”, and proceeds from the album release concert will benefit the World Center for Birds of Prey. What a great opportunity to bring our community together to support the arts and the environment!

The World Center for Birds of Prey will kick off the evening at 7pm with a special presentation about the importance of owls. Our owl ambassadors Oliver and Winston (Verreaux's Eagle-owl and Western Screech Owl) will be on the glove for this unique, all-ages presentation.

Following the raptor presentation, the Lonesome Jetboat Ramblers will play a set of hard driving bluegrass before Idyltime plays selections from their new album. Called square dances will be interspersed throughout the evening!

Tickets available at the door only ($10 for adults, $5 for youth, free for kids 4 and under) and proceeds will benefit The Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey. The Mardi Gras is ALL AGES!

Tunes 10/8/19

What a fun session! Thanks to the whole crew for coming with tunes on your minds. It was great to have Gillian join us. Very nice fiddling! Please come again. The hammered dulcimer was sweet! This recording has been fun to listen to. Our band gets stronger and better with each tune repetition we play. That means folks are listening and adjusting. Who could ask for anything more?!

see you next time,

Dave

Tunes 10/1/19

This was a great session, and the recordings bear that out! It's so fun to play with this group

Don't forget the dance this Friday night at the Mardi Gras. Hillbilly Auxiliary Band (you) with Idyltime will provide music. This is most of what we'll play. See you soon!

Dave

Tunes 9/29/19

That was a fun session! Thanks for coming out and sharing old-time music with some great folks (us). Looking forward to Grandjean, though I won't be able to make it until Saturday. I hope to see you there, and I hope you enjoy these recordings!

cheers,

Dave

Tunes 9/10/19

Thanks for a fun evening of tunes. We have a fine group of folks, and I'm grateful for the sessions with you all! I will be out of town next Tuesday, but with you in spirit. Just a reminder about the square dance on Friday, Oct. 4. The Hillbilly Auxiliary Band (that's you all) is invited to join Idyltime (that's me, Ava, Beth & Tate) for this great family event. We'll talk about this a week from Tuesday and get an idea of tunes we can play.

cheers!

Dave

Tunes 9/3/19

What a great first session of the year! We sound like where we left off last spring. The recordings are nice. I encourage you to listen to and download what you like. "Hanged Man's Reel" (and a few others) rocked!

"Richmond" is a very cool, fun tune. It's in A major and A modal, it's crooked, it has a high C#, and it could make a person who plays it the life of the party! Here is my take on the chords:

:  A      A      E      E A
    A      G    A E      A  :

:   A       A      A D D     A   (1 extra beat)
    A       G    A E      A  :

Thanks for being there, and see you next Tuesday.

Dave

Tunes 5/21/19

Our last session was a blast! Thanks to all you who made Tuesday evenings so special this year!!
I will be sending out another email that will have attached a list of the tunes that were recorded this season and a list of links for them.

For now, enjoy this last recording. It is sweet! Also enjoy Jonah's new song.

Cheers, and I hope to see and play tunes with you this summer!

Dave

Tumes 5/14/19

Another fun evening, and I know I'll miss these weekly musical get-togethers! This Tuesday is our last session of the season. Don't forget Weiser! Some of us will be in Stickerville by the 11th, and I hope to see you there. If you've never been, you really should give it a try!

cheers, and thanks for all the great music!

Dave

Tunes 5/7/19

Thanks for a fun session! There are some nice recordings here, and I look forward to our last 2 sessions of the season at Pengilly's. Summer is almost here and it's beginning to feel like festival season!

Tunes 4/30/19

Great session, thanks everyone! A reminder that TONIGHT is the last FIRST FRIDAY SQUARE DANCE of the season. Join us if you can, and bring friends. Musicians are invited to sit in as the "Hillbilly Auxiliary Band" -- to play along with the square-dance band.

See you tonight,

Dave

Tunes 4/2/19

Thanks for another fun evening of old-time fiddle tunes and songs (mostly tunes...) The recordings are sounding good -- good enough, I hope, that you can learn tunes from. Last session of this school year is May 21. Seven more, so don't miss out!

see you Tuesday,

dave

Tunes 3/26/19

What a musical March! St. Pat's Day, Treefort, old-time sessions at Pengilly's and Irish sessions at O'Michael's. Enjoy these recordings, and keep playing!

Dave

Tunes 3/19/19

I completely forgot to send this out. Apologies!

better late than never,

Dave

Tunes 2/26/19

Nasty weather kept many folks away from the session, but a group of us 'close in' regulars, with the welcome addition of Bernie & Jonah, made for an outstanding evening! Thanks to those who made it.

Square dance this Friday. Hillbilly Auxiliary Band members and wannabes are welcome to sit in with Idyltime, Bernie Reilly, and Reeb Willms for an evening of great square-dance music. Tell your friends! See you there.

Dave

Tunes 2/19/19

Excuse the lateness! I left town Thursday and forgot to get this out before leaving. Well, here it is and I bet it's worth the wait.

I hope to see you tomorrow evening.

Dave

Tunes 2/12/19

It was another really fine session. Thanks for all the great tunes and for keeping the sessions fun! We're building up a nice repertoire of tunes here in the Boise old-time music community.

See you next week,

Dave

Tunes 2/05/19

Wow, what a fun session! Tuesday was great fun, and you folks really add energy these sessions. Let's keep it going!!

Okay, I'll always carry extra AAA batteries in the future because, once again, batteries died before the session did. Still, we got the best 15 recorded.

Dave,

Tunes 1/29/19

What a great session we had Tuesday! I really enjoy playing with such a fine group of folks, and the music we make is pretty fine as well. Enjoy these recordings.

BTW, "Boneparte (Blown Apart) Crossing the Rhine" does repeat the A-part (unlike what I was doing) according to Fiddler's Fakebook.
